International School of Tactical Medicine

In 1996, the founder of the International School of Tactical Medicine (ISTM), the late Dr. Lawrence Heiskell conceived the notion that in order to better save lives, law enforcement tactical operators must not only possess the proper tactical skills, but also be skilled in providing lifesaving medical care to themselves and to victims of violent acts.
Since then, ISTM has provided state of the art, scenario-based training to the Law Enforcement and Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) community, training thousands of students from across the nation and world to respond under austere and hostile conditions.
As the new president and course director of ISTM, it is my duty and honor to continue my friend Lawrence’s legacy of providing “The Best Medicine in the Worst Places” while also leading ISTM into the next phase of growth, ensuring that all First Responders are trained to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
