Come out and see what First Tee - Greater Sacramento does to help and make a difference in your community. This is a free event to observe and hopefully support First Tee - Greater Sacramento as part of Mike Rockenstein's Honorary Mayor of Carmichael campaign. The California Eagles (Special Olympics) program has been one of our most loved programs since its inception in 1986. This program annually brings over 100 young people and adults with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism, and other special needs or disabilities out to the golf course 25 weeks per year. The participants are taught the basics of the game of golf and our Life Skills curriculum. Physical therapists have verified that golf activities help the participants improve their mobility, balance and coordination. The program also adds to the participants ability to concentrate which results in increased personal learning. Participants especially love the social aspect of this group, as it is an important as the golf and life skills. The participants make great friendships with each other, our staff and volunteers. Those who have been in the program the longest mentor the newer players—therefore builds their confidence.
